Registration Procedure

The registration procedure is the first and most important step towards being able to participate in TEIMUN 2010. Before you register, please read the following information very carefully.

In order to participate you have to fill out the online registration form (see below). After filling out this form we will confirm your registration within two weeks and if you have been accepted we will send you the payment details. You will only be registered when you have both received this confirmation AND have paid the conference fee. The deadline for registration for participants who need a visa is set for Sunday 7th of May 2010 . Participants who do not need a visa can register until Sunday the 4th of June 2010. Once we have received your conference fee we will start the visa procedure if required. For any questions, please check the FAQ section or contact one of our Participant Coordinators.

Country and Council choices

Experience has learned that it is preferable to form a delegation of two people. This, however, is completely your own choice. You can make your own delegation with a friend, or you can ask the board to pair you up with another delegate. You get to choose four different councils and for each council you get three country choices. We ask a minimum of 2 country choices per council and a minimum of three councils. So if you can't make a choice, there is no need to fill in all four councils and 3 countries per council, however doing so will give you a bigger chance of getting assigned to one of your choices. We will try to assign you to your first choice, but if that is not possible we have to assign you to one of your other choices. However, if this is not possible, the TEIMUN Board reserves the right to assign another country to a participant than he/she has chosen to represent. We base the assignments on a first come, first serve basis. In addition we do not allow participants to represent their own country (their own nationality).

You can participate in the 2010 conference in one of the following councils:

- Delegate in the General Assembly

- Delegate in the Security Council: Countries in this council are always represented by two persons. If you come to TEIMUN on your own, the board will assign a fellow delegate toyou with whom you can form a delegation

- Delegate in the Economic and Social Council

- Delegate in the the North Atlantic Council

- Delegate in the Human Rights Council

- Delegate in the new Historical Council

- Judge in the International Court of Justice. To represent a judge in the ICJ, you are required to have completed at least one year of International Law on university level.

- Faculty Advisor. University lecturers are offered the possibility to join and support delegates. Please contact one of our participant coordinators for more information.

Application Statement

As part of the registration we will ask you to write a short statement on a given topic. This years topic is "Rise and Fall, Challenging the ongoing processes of history".

The objective of the application statement is to test if your English is sufficient enough to participate in the conference. In addition it is a little test of your argumentation skills and topic knowledge.

The application statement requires no preparation, we just ask your opinion on the given topic. So there is no need to do any background study in order to write your statement. The length is expected to be between 200 to 400 words long. Please note that we will not judge you on your opinion or anything else you write. You are free to say what you want, we guarantee that your motivation will not be shown or passed on to a third party. TEIMUN encourages free speech and different opinions. We believe that with this spirit, we are reflecting one of the corner stones on which the United Nations is built.

Please note that we only want you to write a short statement on the topic. Please do not use the application statement to tell us why you want to participate in TEIMUN. The fact that you are registering says enough about your desire to participate.

Also beware that we take plagiarism very seriously. If we find that you have copied texts from other people into your application statement you run the risk of having your application cancelled. We are working towards a conference with a high academic level and we cannot and will not tolerate plagiarism.

Position Papers

If one of your country choices is a prominent country in the council, such as the United States of America in the Security Council for instance, we might ask you to write a position paper motivating your choice. This position paper is only applicable to people who want to represent a prominent country.

A few weeks before the conference we might ask all participants to write a general position paper for the country we have assigned to them. We do this to make sure everyone has at least a basic level of preparation for the conference.

Visa Procedure

Visa procedure's can take a long time so if you need a visa to come to The Netherlands it is very important that you register early on and start the visa procedure as soon as possible after your registration has been confirmed. For all the information regarding visas please check our visa information and procedure page.

In order to get a visa the participant has to go to the Dutch embassy or consulate. The participant has to arrange his or her own visa, but we can assist by using our contacts in the embassies. Please take note that it can take up to two months to arrange a visa, so do not wait too long with arranging the necessary requirements.

Payment

Once you have registered and we have approved your request to participate we will send you the payment details. Remember that your registration will only be completed once we have received your conference fee. In most western countries it is possible to electronically transfer the fee to our account. If this is not possible, the preferred method is Western Union. TEIMUN will not pay any transfer fees charged to you for transferring the money to us. For students with a Dutch account it is also possible to pay with direct debit. If that applies to you, you should fill in your account information when asked. The conference fee is € 150 for the entire conference (debate sessions as well as the opening ceremony and such.). This fee includes also a daily warm lunch, openings ceremony drinks, a delegate bag with conference material etc. For further questions about the payment you can send an email to j.j.ties@teimun.org.

At no time will any information be passed on to a third party without your permission unless we are required to by law. If for any reason you wish to have your personal information deleted from our records, feel free to let us know and we will honour your request.
